Ten-Dimensional Strings, Compactifications and Supersymmetry Breaking
 
The first part of the lectures will be devoted to the basic setup underlying the construction of the ten-dimensional supersymmetric strings and their non-supersymmetric counterparts. We shall then illustrate string compactifications, with emphasis on the simpler and yet very rich supersymmetric cases. The final part of the lectures will address some surprising aspects of string compactifications in the presence of broken supersymmetry, with emphasis on vacuum stability and on some potential lessons for early Cosmology.
