Synergies for Black-Hole Binaries: from perturbative techniques to strong-field gravity

APPLY
Abstract

Next-generation gravitational-wave detectors -- from LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA upgrades to the Einstein Telescope, Cosmic Explorer and LISA -- will probe black-hole binaries with unprecedented precision and across new regions of parameter space. Extracting the full physics of these signals requires waveform models that remain accurate from the weak-field inspiral to the strongly nonlinear merger and ringdown. Recent advances across several communities -- PM and PN methods, GSF theory, EOB theory and NR -- have revealed powerful but still largely independent tools for tackling different regimes of the two-body problem.

This program aims to forge new synergies among these approaches and to develop resummation and matching strategies that coherently bring perturbative expansions into the strong-field regime. Emphasis will be placed on nonlinear phenomena, high-order perturbative information, and the unification of PM, PN, GSF and NR insights into robust frameworks for modeling black-hole binaries, whether through the lens of EOB or novel connections between these approaches. By bringing together leading experts and emerging researchers, the program will accelerate the development of next-generation analytical and semi-analytical models commensurate with the sensitivity of future detectors, ultimately advancing our understanding of the relativistic two-body problem and gravitational-wave science.

Poster session

The participants who would like to present a poster are kindly invited to send an email with the title and a short abstract to alice.bernamonti@unifuit before May 22, specifying for which week of the workshop. Since a limited number of panels is available, the organizers will select the posters shortly after the deadline.
