2, 3. Calabi-Yau compactifications. Special holonomy; Yau's theorem; moduli spaces; effective theories; world-sheet; mirror symmetry.

4. Minkowski vacua. NS-flux; F-theory; The conformal Kähler class.

5. AdS vacua. Freund--Rubin; Near-horizon limits; Maldacena--Nuñez; Classification results.

6. Pure spinor methods. Generalized complex geometry; calibrations.
