Conformal Field Theory

  Course description: The course will serve as an introduction to conformal field theory (CFT), in two as well as in higher dimensions. The focus will be on presenting CFT as a central organizing principle in quantum field theory. The topics covered will include:
 
- Critical behavior in lattice models; RG flows; the Ising and O(N) models
 
- Conformal invariance; the conformal bootstrap axioms
 
- Conformal bootstrap of the 3d Ising CFT
 
- CFT in two dimensions; Virasoro algebra
 
- Conformal bootstrap solution of minimal models
 
- RG flows between minimal models
 
Time allowing, we will sketch elements of AdS/CFT correspondence.
 

 

 
I recommend the excellent book by John Cardy: Scaling and renormalization in statistical physics, both as a preparation and for material complementary to the course.
